Data suggests Amritsar shares highest amount of child porn

It was followed by Delhi as Lucknow, Alappuzha and Thrissur were also named in the list of 10 cities.

New Delhi: Child sexual abuse is a growing menace in the society and several cases of children falling to victims to such acts for making child porn available on the internet have shocked the world in the past few years, as child porn remains a menace despite a crackdown on sites with such content.

After a major child porn scandal jolted Pakistan in 2015, the arrest of American national James Kirk Jones from Hyderabad with 30,000 files of child pornography raised concerns for activities in India. This has been followed by government data revealing shocking details about Indian cities sharing the highest amount of child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

While the list included cities like Lucknow, Thrissur and Alappuzha, it was Amritsar which was on top with 4.3 lakh files of child porn being shared and was followed by Delhi.

The situation is grave since authorities say that for every clip results in abuse of another child and technology has made access to such content easier. Jones himself was streaming child porn while being in touch with hundreds of like minded users using peer-to-peer file sharing.

To curb the rising menace of child porn despite laws against viewing and sharing of such material being in place, union minister Maneka Gandhi has announced an alliance of NGOs, Interpol, IT experts and law enforcement agencies.
