Hyderabad: A retirement haven

Hyderabad has welcomed the youth with its lovely trek trail to Golconda Fort and the vibrant party scene.

While Hyderabad has welcomed the youth with its lovely trek trail to Golconda Fort and the vibrant party scene, it has also embraced senior citizens from other states, who have chosen this city as their preferred place to spend their evening years.

Hyderabad has a rich culture: James Michael Lyngdoh, former Chief Election Commissioner

I’m a native of Meghalaya, having served in Delhi for many years. I relocated to Hyderabad in 2004, post retirement, despite having no connections here. A long time ago, I had visited the Chevella area. I was taken aback by the picturesque winding road to the place. That was when I started thinking about relocating. The city has a rich culture. Also, Hyderabadis have a great sense of humour, and know how to laugh it off.

Any ex-officer would like the city: Amitava Sarker and Anurupa, Retired Brigadier and his wife

Secunderabad has the best cantonment in India and any ex officer would like to stay here. Even geographically, this is one place that is free of encroachment. As with people from the army, my wife and I too have lived in cities all over India. Yet, we chose Hyderabad. I was a sailor, when I first visited the city in 1975, with my wife, to participate in the Monsoon Regatta. Anurupa, adds, “That evening, we attended a dinner at Secunderabad club, and I mentioned very casually that this would be a lovely place to live in. After so many years, here we are.”

A truly cosmopolitan city: Umesh Kumar, Retired additional Deputy General of Police

Originally from Uttar Pradesh, I had no plans of going back. I was assigned to the Andhra Pradesh cadre and shifted to Hyderabad in 1977. Having spent three decades in Hyderabad, I developed a very close relationship with this place. There is a saying that anyone who drinks the water from the Gandipet lake, will remain here for the rest of their lives. That is what happened with me. People settle here because it is so welcoming. It is truly cosmopolitan. Every festival that is region specific is celebrated here. That is the magic of Hyderabad.
