A gem from railways

Inspector G.V. Sanjeeva Rayudu, is the lone Railway employee to receive the Presidents Police Medal.

A recent recipient of the President’s Police Medal was a person who ran to the middle of the road and saved a person from getting attacked by an armed gang and who arrested a group of 10 who stole Rs 38 lakh in a matter of just a few months. And he is is not from the police department, but an inspector from the Railway Protection Force. In fact, G. V. Sanjeeva Rayudu, Inspector of the CIB from Secunderabad RPF, is the lone recipient of the medal from the Indian Railways.

Rayudu, who joined the force as a constable in 1983, had rose to the rank of Inspector through hard work and dedication. And the recognition has made him all the more humble. “It is always a team effort and not an individual effort. All the success belongs to my hard working team. I may be their head, but if the team is not good, nothing would matter,” he says.

His team members share their joy. Rayudu’s colleague and subordinate Syeda Tahseen, assistant sub inspector, says, “I am very happy to be a part of his team. He has great investigating skills and courage. He is a great trainer too.”

The team has been instrumental in extending assistance to passengers and by saving valuable railway property from criminal activities. “This year alone, we have registered cases against 42 fraudulent agents for selling railway tickets in black,” he informs.

However, this is not Rayudu’s first recognition. He was awarded with the prestigious Indian Police Medal for meritorious services in 2004, last year’s MR’s Medal for best investigation.
