A visual treat

Underprivileged children in Chennai are getting ready for a unique movie watching experience.

Round Table India and Ladies Circle India are NGOs that work for bettering the education in the country. Having improved the infrastructure of many schools, provided scholarships and effected the lives of about 2 million children in the country, their aim is to make children learn through freedom.

Their new initiative in Chennai titled, ‘Happy Talkies’ is making a change in the lives of underprivileged children. Gathering about 5,000 children from orphan homes and special schools across the city, Happy Talkies will give them a classy movie experience at Sathyam Cinemas. Nandini Reddy from Ladies Circle India talks more about the initiative saying, “This would be the first time that they are entering the theatres and watching movie like regular people. Sathyam will be screening the Tamil dubbed version of Kung Fu Panda 3. Even children with speaking and hearing disabilities will be watching the film. We can’t bring the physically challenged kids who can’t move, because it’d be like troubling them; but we’re taking whoever is willing and able to come!”

The morning slot for all screens is dedicated fully to the children on the 18th and 19th of November. There will also be a lunch provided on the days by Chennai Food Bank. “If more people come forward to fund tickets and sponsor for such events, we look forward to organising Happy Talkies often and expand to different cities as well!” adds Nandini.
