Locals spot dolphin in Kochi canal

Residents near the Nayaraambalam-Punchapalam canal in Kochi were in for a surprise after a humpback dolphin was caught in a fishing net in the backwaters of Vyppin.

The news attracted many visitors who were eager to catch a glimpse of the mammal. The dolphin is said to have swam for nearly 15 km to reach the canal. But it was unable to go back to the sea as the canal was not naturally connected to the sea.

On Wednesday evening, locals released the dolphin into the sea some 300 metres away, according to reports. Click on the link below to view the rescue efforts:
