SUNte for the soul

To follow the sun and get a taste of revitalising fresh air in nammooru, head to this Sun Festival today.

A little fun in the sun is always a good thing. If you’re an outdoorsy person who gets a kick out of early mornings and exercise, then the Sun Festival is just for you. A one-of-a-kind event, the festival promises to take Bengalureans on a journey into a holistic lifestyle.

From zumba and yoga, to cycling and conscious eating, this festival, which is being conducted by Total Yoga along with Gold Rush, will be a celebration of music and dance too.

Neetu Singh, co-founder of Total Yoga says, “We will be bringing different artists together. We start off the event with running and cycling, which will be followed by yoga sessions and zumba. There will also be a talk on mindfulness, a salsa session and live music performances. Besides you can also browse through organic food stalls, boutique wellness product stalls and others displaying their wares.”

Calling this a journey from outward to inward, Neetu reveals that the sun festival will end on a grand scale in Goa in February 2017. “The sun itself represents energy – all these events will be happening at sunrise,” she says. The distinctive festival aims to get people out of their beds in the morning and make them experience the fresh feeling of exercising in the outdoors.

“We want to make Bengalureans move a little bit! It’s going to be lifestyle changing. Ultimately, it’s all about feeling happy,” shares Neetu of the event that kickstarts today at 6.30 am at UB City. The warm-up for the running session will be led by Aakash Nambiar, who’s a barefoot marathoner and Pinkathon ambassador. The runners will then do a 5K run. “I want people to reconnect with mother Earth through running. Barefoot running is the cheapest form of workout as it doesn’t need any investment. Also, the recovery post running is pretty fast. We will have an interactive session during the run about the benefits of running barefoot, which is a natural form of running,” says Aakash.

Participants will also get to experience a groovy zumba session which will be led by Shwetambari Shetty, co-founder of the Tribe Fitness Club. “We will be having a non-stop 45-minute zumba fitness session. Post the running and yoga, people will be tired, but the moment we start the music, they will get motivated to move and dance. It will be a Latin-inspired dance session with a lot of Latin music, with fitness incorporated into it,” says Shweta, adding, “We are trying to amalgamate different formats of fitness under one roof. We intend to bring in a lot of brightness and positivity.”
