Time travel of metro-ites

Shenju Samuel Koshy's short film Nalathe Nagaram went viral with the inauguration of Metro rail service.

Of all things Kochiites had to endure in the past few years, the Metro and its construction seem to have come in the way for most of them. Cursing the Metro had become an everyday activity for most commuters. Shenju Samuel Koshy noticed how ‘Oh this stupid Metro’ has become a norm with everyone and decided to do something about it. He made a short film titled Nalathe Nagaram, an answer to how Metro would change the lives of Kochiites in the years to come.

“I made this short film two years ago from a simple concept I thought of during some free time in office,” says Shenju, a business analyst.

With the inauguration of the Metro rail service, the film has suddenly become viral. “I wanted to do something about any Government sector. It just happened that Metro is a sector that we know quite closely, right from its conception stage. Once the Metro begins functioning, we can do something about it. But my idea was to do something much before that, which was also not easy.”

The whole project took less than a week. Shenju has also worked on the creative and concept side of an animation ad for Metro.

Shedding light on why he chose to work on Kochi Metro specifically, he says, ‘Pandaram Metro’ is something all of us have said. It is also true that once it begins functioning, people will have a different opinion, but until then, they will throw that negative shade. I wanted to show that there is another face to all these construction hassles we are experiencing now.” Shenju’s next project will explore the situations faced by women. “Both my initial works did not have female characters in it. So this time, I thought of doing something that would bring to light the situations of women.”
