A Swedish pharmacy has come up with an innovative idea to encourage smokers to quit – by installing a billboard that actually coughs when someone with a lit cigarette passes by.
The billboard is strategically located at Stockholm’s Odenplan square as people often smoke over there. The digital screen placed outside a metro station shows a simple photo of a male model at first. However if a smokers passes by it, the model onscreen immediately starts coughing as if bothered by the smoke.
The screen then changes again and advertises products that can help smokers kick the bad habit. The effect of the ‘coughing billboard’ was created by fixing smoke detectors to the screen.
