Music of the soul

The purpose of the sojourn of the soul is to recognise and be in tune with its own music.

Man is drawn to the outer world by the magnetic attraction of that which appeals to the senses. The fragrance of roses, the brilliance of the setting sun, the hushed whispers of a couple in love, the touch of satin, the taste of rasgulla are irreplaceable pleasures of life.

The five senses make life exciting and interesting and pleasurable. So ensnared are we in their hold that most of us go round and round in endless circles to satiate these never to be satiated desires. The intensity of emotions of love, envy and hatred are also equally addictive. You would wonder how depression or hatred could be addictive.

Emotions set into motion vital energy and make one feel alive — it may be alive and well or it may be alive and miserable — but all the same alive. Adrenaline is a hormone produced by the adrenal glands, which cap the kidneys and pour out the so-called stress hormones.

Whenever we face a stimulus requiring fight, fright or flight this gland complies by generating the adrenaline rush. This gears up the body into a heightened state of being in order to cope with the situation. So accustomed do we get to the increased blood flow, brain stimulation, etc. of this chemical that we experience a sense of deflation when the situation is resolved or dies a natural death.

Strangely, the stress becomes the raison d’etre, albeit on a subconscious level.
What I am trying to emphasise is, that we begin to identify being alive with these little energy puddles of sensual enjoyment, achievements and emotional fluctuations.

One creates a drama where one is the central character and the rest are all peripheral and a story is woven in which we enact our role with customised sentiments and a monotony, which literally kills. And so on… till the next lifetime dawns and you play the same role again.

You are so automated in your craving and responses that you forget the true agenda of your soul to be intimate with itself. The purpose of the sojourn of the soul being to recognise and be in tune with its own music. To get all the discordant notes of the various instrument the body, the mind, the emotions and the intuitive wisdom in alignment. The music of the soul is the philosopher’s stone, being touched by which, one transcends the movie projected by karma, to reach a stillness, which is transparent, rejuvenating, revealing and
transforming.

Habitual mental grooves and emotional reactions, which are recalcitrant to reason, pontification and even meditation, and keep popping back like the proverbial jack-in-the-box, slowly resolve in the yoga of sound or naad yoga, When sound ascends up the spine, kissing each petal of each charka awakens it, outdated ways of thought and action are spontaneously attenuated and dissolved.

A rare aspirant begins to adjust the frequency of his heart to hear the anahad naad. This happens when the mental cacophony has been somewhat silenced. I say somewhat silenced, because even a mild glimpse of the bliss of this sound can compel the individual mind to journey back with this sound to the source of the sound. A process, which en route unveils occult secrets of sound and the soul.
