KOZHIKODE: ‘Team Malabar Riders’ a cycling club based in the city will begin a cycle expedition in association with the Paravur Bikers club, Kochi, with the message ‘Save Western Ghats’. The expedition called “Tour de Ooty” which has 60 members from both clubs participating, will be flagged off from Nilambur on September 16. Sahir Babu, one of the founders of the cycling club, says, “As we are health conscious and passionate about cycling we have formed this club. If cycling is made into a habit, 80 percent of your medical bill can be saved.”

“Our more than 100 members include engineers, doctors, teachers, IT professionals etc”, said Sahir, who works in an advertising company. Apart from pedalling around 35 to 40 kilometers every day, the club has also been organizing workshops on cycle riding and maintenance. Members lamented the lack of bicycle lanes in the state, although there were many cycling clubs.
