Quadriplegic from Mysuru conquers sky, enters Limca Book of Records
Mysuru: A radio jockey with the Sri Sathya Sai Baba's radio station in Puttaparthi, and a English voice- over artiste on the "Uncle Lion's tales” animation serial on television, 31–year- old Raghuram Bhat has already conquered a disability that most would see as the end of the road.
It was an accident while swimming in the Chithravathi river in Puttaparthi on November 8, 2005 that turned him into a quadriplegic, leaving his entire body below the shoulders paralysed. But far from giving up, Raghuram has crossed one milestone after another since that life changing event. His latest is the most daring, however, for someone in his condition.
Jumping off a helicopter from a height of 12,700 ft at the Mysuru airport on Monday, he became India’s first quadriplegic to do sky diving and found a place in the Limca book of world records at the end of it.
The gutsy, never- say- die man admits to being inspired by an episode of Bollywood star, Aamir Khan's television show, Sathyameva Jayathe, which featured a paraplegic doing sky diving, “Seeing the show, I decided to attempt the adventure sport two years ago and contacted Dr Anchal Khurana of Kakini Enterprises which conducted sky diving at the Mysuru airport.
