Scaling heights on a bike: First woman to ride Ladakh on 110 CC scooter

Anam Hashim, the first woman to scale the Khardung La pass on a 110 CC scooter, will repeat the feat with 10 women.

Breaking all stereotypes, Anam Hashim, a fashion design student and the youngest female stunt rider in the country is making quite a name for herself.

Now, after she set her place in the Indian Book of Records for having conquered a height of 18,000 feet — she scaled the mighty Khardung La Pass, Ladakh in 2015 — after riding over 2,100 km in just 18 days, on a 110 CC scooter, this time she will be repeating the feat accompanied by 10 female bikers.

“I realised that anybody, and not just a professional, can undertake this voyage on a scooter,” says Anam who will be training with the 10 women, who are yet to be selected, in Hossur, Karnataka. Anam, who was in Hyderabad on Tuesday, loves bikes as much as she loves the latest fashion trends.

Talking about scaling the pass as a challenge set by a bike company, she says, “I was shocked when I got to know what vehicle I would be riding. But I got the scooter a week before I started my journey and once I started riding it, I was confident that I could do it,” she says.

The achievement however came with its challenges. “I often found myself out of breath due to the dizzying heights. The most adventurous time was when I was stranded in the middle of a landslide. There was snow all around me and I had to wait till late in the night to begin my journey,” recalls Anam, who is from Lucknow.
