When Delhi-based Mallika Arya decided to travel the world earlier this year, little did she know that it would lead to an inspirational journey to practise what she believes in — fighting climate change.
Selected for a 2017 Antarctica expedition with noted English environmentalist Robert Swan, Mallika is now crowdfunding on the website BitGiving for the trip. The expedition, she writes on the page, will help spread awareness about issues dealing with climate change. Mallika also says that on the journey, she’ll be connecting with people not just from India but across the world with similar ideas.
So far, Mallika has been doing her bit by traversing the country while being as eco-friendly as possible — travelling only by buses and trains, using eco-friendly toiletries and even carrying her own straw and bottle, to cut off her reliance on bottled mineral water. She also speaks to locals on her travels, spreading the message of sustainable living.
The former volunteer-teacher hopes to raise '14 lakh for the journey over the next month, promising donors personalised shout outs in the form of videos, photographs and social media posts.
