Amusing parody tampon ad imagines a world where all men had periods

Would getting a period be a bigger deal then?

The debate surrounding the ‘tampon tax’ in the West has brought the issue of affordable menstrual hygiene products in the spotlight. Tampon tax refers to the sales tax levied on feminine hygiene products and has been widely criticised for being an unfair financial burden on women.

Advocates argue that women should not have to pay extra as such products cannot be deemed as a luxury. As part of a campaign, WaterAid recently asked 2,000 people about whether they believed that the world would be any different if all men had periods. Interestingly a third of the survey respondents said that in such a scenario tampons would be advertised as "boosting your performance". This sounds not at all surprising as our society is still very much patriarchal in nature.

So WaterAid has come up with short parody ads to raise awareness about the fact that one in three women around the world do not have access to a toilet during their periods.
