Talk of town: Chatterati by Karun Raman

Wishing Deccan Chronicle 11 years of success! I would like to thank the paper for giving me a chance to express myself.

Always ravishing!

I’ve grown up watching the awesome Ramya Krishnan on silver screen — she is as beautiful and mesmerising in person as well! She has no starry airs, and is very down to earth. Recently at the Fashion Week, she rocked the ramp and held the attention of the audience with much grace and aplomb. When I met her, there was only one thought that crossed my mind — here was this person who is beautiful on the inside, and outside. Ramya is indeed fabulous and exudes so much positivity. When I got chatting with her, she confirmed that positivity was her mantra to happiness. She is such a warm person and positively radiates humility. Without a doubt, she took my breath away!

I was invited for dinner to Ramya’s place as well, and OMG — I must tell you all that she is an amazing host and a fabulous cook! She keeps a beautiful home and the ambience is just perfect. Her food is still making my mouth water. For her, family is of utmost importance, and is her first priority. She tells me that whenever she gets time, she just wants to cut off from the world and be with her lovely son and family.

Ramya also mentioned how excited she and her friends are about their very good friend Madhubala’s birthday party and Fashion Week, that they will be attending this weekend in Mumbai. Ramya, it was so awesome meeting you indeed. You are so grounded, with such strong values. Your smile with that twinkle in the eye says it all. You seem to be a person who believes in ‘live and let live.’ You are not opinionated, and so willing to accept people the way they are. What an awesome quality. Lots to learn from you, my dear! Great going, and all the best for all your future projects. We can’t wait for the next installment of Baahubali to hit screens — you’re gonna own the theatres then too!

Jeepers creepers

Jack Sparrow / One Eyed Jack is the new nickname for this lady designer who has been on everyone’s worry list. She, for starters, doesn’t pay the choreographers or the models! Secondly, she has been spreading rumours about so many actors and celebrities... now, how jobless is she indeed?

It’s high time people get their guard up and start avoiding insensitive designers like this one! Let’s give the space to so many of the other honest and hardworking people instead, looking for a decent break in our city.

A Loveable chef indeed

All of us have heard that the way to people’s hearts is through their stomach — who better can endorse that statement than someone who has taken up cooking as a profession, and is very passionate about it? A chef combines art and craft. You have to learn the craft really well and should also have a kind of expertise that gets you to the top; this can only come to people who have a combination of talent and passion for cooking. One such man who has been making news in our singara Chennai is Ajit Bangera, the senior executive chef of ITC Grand Chola. Being an Australian citizen, he feels his life has taken a big turn after moving to Chennai.

A good foundation is always a must when it comes to any profession. He focuses more on the work culture and makes his workspace so much fun for everyone. Ajit says he wants his staff to be happy when they come to work every day, and does everything within his capability to make the environment really friendly and encourages his team to do their best and also give him great inputs. He’s of the opinion that the guests in his hotel are very happy and appreciate the food only because of the happy team, whose main ingredient is love!

Apart from winning an award as the best chef of the year, he has also won an executive chef of the year (south India) honour! How cool is that. It’s always a pleasure to see a Chennaiite making news nationally – great going, chef!

Truly an Earth’s Samaritan

As a doctor, an educationist and a mother of three growing children, I see our planet struggling to cope with the needs of the billions.” Susan Marthathandan, Director, Hindustan College of Arts and Science, spoke these profound words. She has worked very hard toward educating people on saving planet Earth. She is of the strong opinion that she, along with her team of students, can surely do their bit to make a difference to our beautiful planet.

To tread lightly on the earth means to respect the planet, and be responsible caretakers of this land. As an educationist, she feels she has a moral responsibility to teach the future leaders of India the way forward. The inspiration for her to lead the college was our Prime Minister’s clarion call for ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’.

It was at the right time that a team of recyclers came with a proposal to put up infrastructure, and remove the inorganic waste and plastic from the campus. With an already existing STP (Sewage Treatment Plant) on campus and a small organic farm, they were ready to take the leap with this push from the highest power in the country. Inside the campus, they had an awareness drive, and now it is litter-free! Truly inspiring.
