RESOLUTE for a better world

It's a brand new year, and a brand new activist agenda for many upright citizens in the city.

MUTT ADO about animals

A few days ago, three puppies walked into my life. People believe that how one spends the last few days of the year reflects on how the coming new year will be. So, on New Year’s eve, I am away from the city, in the midst of nature and animals. I started off with a lot of good and satisfying work in 2018, working with animals across the country, adopting an elephant and a tiger too. They bring as much joy and happiness to me as acting does. This year, I plan to do more for animals and as a part of it, I am getting involved with Prani, an animal organisation, working with Sanjeev, towards creating awareness about animals. In its first leg, we are starting off with the project Living with Snakes. It will spread awareness about snake bites among farmers. Only four per cent of all snakes in India are venomous but many people are unaware of this fact, thus snakes are being killed mercilessly. This drive hopes to save both snakes and our farmers.”

Compost your garbage

I grow my own vegetables, compost all my garbage and my house is a zero waste household. This is what I plan to continue in the New Year as well. All that Bengalureans have to do to be more eco-friendly is to start composting at home. This can be done even if you live in an apartment as there is no foul smell. Almost all of your kitchen waste can be recycled and composted. I hope more people practice this in the New Year. It will help reduce the crazy amount of garbage that Bangalore generates.

Conserve water

We need to resolve and save water, especially with drought happening all over our state and severe water paucity. Everyone talks about water only when there is shortage. We take it for granted otherwise. This new year, we need to educate people about water storage at all levels and make an honest attempt to save water for our collective future. Personally, I will educate people at the panchayat level of the importance of saving water with rain water harvesting, and request the government to allot funds to create more lakes and ponds for storage. I will also encourage farmers to build ponds in their farmland lands through partially-funded government schemes. The resolution will be to save water. If not now, it will be too late.

Learn about Nature, save it

I will do the usual things like saving water which I have been doing for a long time now. Just yesterday, I was discussing with my sister that I want to spend more time amidst nature. I don’t know if it’s a good or bad thing but I just want to be with nature in its original habitat, and not mess with it. By doing so, I get to learn a little more about nature because right now, I don’t spend enough time learning about it. It was only recently that I started watching wildlife documentaries. I realised that this has become my jam and I am enjoying it. I’m gonna invest time trying to learn about conserving nature this year.
