When Shubra Acharya learnt how to ride a bike at the age of 13, little did she know it would turn into her passion and help build her career. And when her brother bought her a bike at 22. It seemed like her fate was set.
Founder of The Travelling Circus, Shubra tells us more about her passion for motorcycling and how she organises bike rides around the world for motorbike enthusiasts.
At just 28, it seems like Shubra has achieved so much already. How did it all start, we want to know. “Around a year ago, my family and I rode to Leh, which is the holy grail of bikers in India and we broke two world records!” she smirks proudly! Along with her family, Shubra set the record of being the only full family to have gone on a motorbike tour for such a long distance.
“It was my mom and dad on one bike, my brother and sister in law on another myself on one bike and my friend, who is now my husband, on another,” reveals the youngster who clearly comes from a family of motorcycling enthusiasts!
For the youngster, deciding to make a career out of her passion, wasn’t a sudden eureka moment. “I just came to realise that being on the road wasn’t a hobby anymore. If I wasn’t biking, I would probably be stuck at a corporate job, get fed up, hit the road, brainstorm and end up at the same place. I’ve just cut the process short,” says Shubra who started her own chocolate manufacturing company at the age of 19!
“I’ve been lucky that way – my parents have always given me the freedom to fall, fail, make mistakes and learn for myself. But I was always a very enthusiastic kid. While others were chilling in their holidays, I was busy making pocket money for myself by doing odd jobs around the house,” she adds, sounding rather enthusiastic about it as well!
But that’s not all the talented young lass! “I have also been trained as a Carnatic vocalist, and when I’m not on the road, I like to write when I’m not travelling. But my life is a holiday and there’s nowhere else I would live, other than on the road,” she says in conclusion.
