Visakhapatnam: The art and cultural complex of the department of tourism, Shilparamam – Jatara, at Madhurawada area in Vizag city have been crying for attention. The visitors were disappointed with the cancellation of the boating facility and poor maintenance of the Jatara. There were no parks and clubs at Madhurawada, which is emerging the biggest residential colony in the city.
The Jatara is the only place for picnics and to spend time with family members during the weekends. With the cancel of boating facility at the Jatara, children and few others are returning unhappy said, G. Sunil Kumar, a resident of Madhurawada. Sources said that at least Rs 4 crore is required to create more facilities such as boating, Jalavihar, food courts and few others at Jatara besides the development of the existing sculptures made of scrap steel, cement and fibreglass. Though the visitors have been demanding for the set up of food courts and other entertainment zones for children and others, the authorities have ignored the priorities of the visitors.
Shilparamam Arts, Crafts and Cultural Society Special Officer B. Jayaraju said that the governments have agreed to sanction Rs 2 crore for the development of Jatara and introduce the boating and few others facilities. If all goes as per plans all the works will be completed by June 2018, he added.
