A bird watcher's paradise

Pintail Ducks, Common Teal, Night Heron, Cormorant, Darter, Indian Shag and Purple Heron.

Home to around 91 local species of birds and 50 migratory birds, Pathiramanal, an exquisite island, is just a few kilometers from Allapuzha. Though it is one of the major tourist spots, it remains unexplored to a great extent.

One of the major reasons would be that the island is uninhabited. The island, which is a part of the Muhamma Panchayat is an hour and half drive by motor boat or 30 minutes by speed boat from Alappuzha town. One can also take the boats plying in the Muhamma-Kumarakom water route.

However, the most appealing part is the journey through Vembanad Lake and the island serves as an intermediary stop between the boat ride. Despite being an unexplored piece of land, the island has been in news for being considered as a potential spot for commercial construction. One of the other issues that the island faces is poaching of the birds and reptiles. The island remains unattended for most of the time.

The island, however, takes care to provide a good get away for the nature lovers and indeed a must visit for bird watchers because one can expect to spot exotic birds like

Pintail Ducks, Common Teal, Night Heron, Cormorant, Darter, Indian Shag and Purple Heron.
