Keeping tourist spots clean

Cycle club members clean Poomala dam premises.

Thrissur on a Cycle, an organisation formed with the objective of promoting cycling, is also involved in various social activities. Recently, its members conducted a plastic/non-biodegradable waste collection drive on the premises of Poomala dam. The drive was follow-up of a similar programme held on the World environment day.

This time around there was more active participation with 30 members, including other club representatives who came from as far as Thriprayar, taking part in clearing non-biodegradable waste from the dam face and surroundings.

DTPC representative Ranjini was a big support to the initiative and provided the participants refreshments and breakfast. A sapling was also planted to commemorate the ‘Save nature’ rally and waste clearance drive.

The drive had initially been planned as the start of a series of awareness building programmes for the upkeep of our surroundings, especially popular and beautiful tourist destinations like Poomala. Poomala happens to be every cyclist's favourite ride destination, due to the serene and beautiful environment and fresh air.
