Big on the big apple

Actress Aindrita Ray tells us why New York left her in awe.

On my last trip to Manhattan, I truly indulged the traveller in me – while I shopped till I dropped at the streets dotted with some of the chicest accessories and apparel, what really enthralled me was the New York Street Fashion Week. It was indeed a sight to behold! The streets literally turned into a runway as models and legend lookalikes sashayed down around me. I saw kids squealing with joy on spotting these models plopped up on giant poles. For a moment, the excitement around invoked the child in me as well.

I think vacations are that time of the year, when diets and healthy eating take a backseat. I sunk my teeth into a baked cheesecake and cheese-pies that were oozing with melted cheese. These are specialties of these small rustic bakeries, and you only get them at select country eateries in New York.

For first time travelers, I would recommend street comedy nights – a one-of-a-kind concept, which takes stand up comedy and impromptu acts to a whole new level. Only thing, I made a blooper by buying coupons that didn’t promise most of the benefits it mentioned!

While I went with a couple of actors, as this trip happened during American Kannada Koota Association Kannada Film awards (AKKA), I believe some of the most popular yet unmissable highlights of the place like the Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, Central Park and the street stores are best enjoyed while solo travelling! Truly, this a city for the discerning traveler.
