4 myths about vagina that need to be busted

Perhaps you might've heard about them from someone or even read them up on some obscure website on the internet.

Apart from capturing human interest since time immemorial, the female anatomy has also been the victim of certain misconceptions and prejudices. There have been plenty of silly myths about the vagina in particular. Perhaps you might’ve heard about them from someone or even read them up on some obscure website on the internet. Here’s a list of the top four myths that need to be trashed right now:

Eating pineapples make you taste better down there

This is a very popular old wives’ tale. But there is not even a kernel of truth in it. "There's actually never been any food that's been proven to make anyone's vagina taste better," says Dr. Melissa Keene, who is a clinical instructor of obstetrics and gynecology at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. So, even though pineapples are a nutritious fruit, they certainly don’t affect the vagina in any way.

All vaginas should look the same

Every vagina is different and the length of your labia does not have any role in making your lady bits look prettier. "Labial lips vary in every single patient, but it's all considered normal, beautiful anatomy," insists Dr. Keene, according to Marie Claire.

Vaginas require active cleaning

Vaginal washes that are available in the market end up changing your body’s natural pH levels. Contrary to what mass media tells you, a rose-scented vagina is not a good or even a healthy thing. "When you wash, you want to use a gentle soap and water," advises Dr. Keene. "And then whatever your natural smell is, that's what it's supposed to be."

Too much sex will loosen the vagina

Be assured that this is just one of patriarchy’s ways to control the sexual behaviour of women. The only time noticeable changes in the vagina occur is after a woman gives birth, asserts Dr. Keene.
