Zoo to pride on 2 pairs of reticulated pythons

The city zoo already has the largest snake and the most venomous snake in the world, anaconda and King Cobra respectively.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Soon, the world’s longest, in addition to the largest and most venomous snake can be seen at Thiruvananthapuram City Zoo. A team led by senior veterinary surgeon Dr. Jacob Alexander and Zoo superintendent P. V. Anil Kumar is on a road trip from Vandalur Zoo in Chennai to the city Zoo carrying the longest snake, two pairs of reticulated pythons and two pairs of white peacock.

The city zoo already has the largest snake and the most venomous snake in the world, anaconda and King Cobra respectively. The reticulated python is the longest reptile in the world. “Thiruvananthapuram Zoo is entering the record books by having these three varieties of snakes as exhibits. They will be a huge added attraction to visitors”, said Dr. Jacob Alexander to DC.

Ever since the seven green anacondas were brought from Dehiwala Zoo in Sri Lanka two years ago, ticket sales in the city Zoo has skyrocketed. With the Onam season on now, the Zoo authorities are hoping to cash in by exhibiting the new additions. Vandalur Zoo has been given three hog deer and a pair of white and brown flightless birds, Rhea, in exchange. Apart from the two top officials of the Zoo, keepers B. Saji and R. Sudhakaran, carpenter G. Prabhakaran and driver B. Shameer are expected to reach the capital city during the early hours of Monday.
