Goat-lifter tigress falls in trap, finally

This is the 20th tiger the forest department trapped in the last five years.

KALPETTA: A goat-lifter tigress which had been spreading fear in the jungle regions of Sulthan Bathery was trapped in the cage laid by the forest department at Onnam Mile near Sulthan Bathery on Sunday. The six-year old tigress has serious injuries on face, front and rear legs and had lost a canine tooth, too, probably forcing it to opt for cattle as it is incapable of hunting down other wild animals, forest officials said. This is the 20th tiger the forest department trapped in the last five years.

People residing on the fringes of the forest region were scared of the animal as it had gone on the prowl even during the day time at Kuppadi and Onnam Mile and lifted more than a dozen goats. The forest department laid traps in two places on Saturday after an irate mob staged a protest. Noted veterinarian Dr Arun Zacharia examined the animal which was later shifted to the office of Wildlife Warden. The animal will be shifted to Thrissur zoo after a thorough examination,
officials said.
