Robotic surgeries to lord over healthcare industry

Till 2017, there were 50 surgical robots and 300 trained robotic surgeons in the country.

Hyderabad: Robotic surgeries are going to take over the healthcare industry in 2018. More trained robotic surgeons bring in expertise and cost-cutting for hospitals. Till 2017, there were 50 surgical robots and 300 trained robotic surgeons in the country. An estimated 7,000 robotic surgeries were performed in India in 2017.

By 2020, there will be 200 surgical robots and 20,000 trained surgeons in the country. From 2013, robotic surgeries have been carried out in urology, gynaecology, cancer, thoriacic and colo-rectal cancers.

The current year saw a major boost and acceptance of this technology. Surgeons now working on niche areas like renal transplants and abdominal tumours. The aim is to train more surgeons so that robots can be set up in many hospitals across the country. There is immense scope in paediatric and general surgeries.
