Awareness on hepatitis Low: Sr Teresa Mandakath

The people may carry the virus and be not aware of it. Hepatitis B is 100 times more infectious than HIV.

Bengaluru: On the eve of World Hepatitis Day (July 28), health experts in the city have called for greater awareness about the disease. Though an expanded programme on immunization, which included hepatitis vaccination across the nation, was started in 2011, it was only for children.

“Adults need to be made aware about the complications and high disease burden,” said Manjunath of Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital.

Sr Teresa Mandakath, Sister Superior of St Martha’s Hospital said, “Awareness on the virus is still low. The people may carry the virus and be not aware of it. Hepatitis B is 100 times more infectious than HIV.”
