The study found that soldiers with low levels of Omega-3 in their blood were more likely to commit suicide.

New York:

Fish oil has been known for its attributes that can help with weight loss, fertility issues and work wonders for the skin, but a new study believes that apart from numerous benefits for the body, fish oil also contributes to maintaining mental health.

A new study mentions that the Omega-3 fatty acids in fish oil help with enhancing brain functioning and also acts against inflammation. It’s also particularly beneficial for soldiers because of consistent training and physical regimes, along with risk of traumatic brain injuries.

The lack of fish oil in blood and less physical activity after returning from combat might lead to depressed mood among soldiers. The study was conducted with 100 soldiers to identity what affected mood of soldiers returning from combat.

The study found out that soldiers with lower levels of Omega-3 in their blood are more likely to commit suicide as compared to those with higher levels. This comes as a breakthrough for improving mental health among soldiers through appropriate diet.
