Supermarket comes up with a sign to help people with invisible disabilities

Living with a disability is a new struggle every day, but the situation can get worse when the disability is not visible, a situation that a reporter from Mirror named Simon Robb faced.

Diagnosed with a bowel disease called ulcerative colitis at 18, Robb had to bid farewell to his social life since he had to use a toilet several times a day. He lost weight rapidly and also had difficulties focusing on studies.

Even as he was battling the disease day after day, Robb looked like a relatively healthy person on the outside. This was a problem since it was difficult for him to handle reactions of people when he used facilities for disabled people.

In order to help people with invisible disabilities like that of Robb’s, a supermarket called Asda has come up with new disabled signs which depict wheelchair bound people along with the figure of a standard man and woman and read ‘Not every disability is visible’.

This will help people with bowel diseases like Crohn’s and IBS, which are still not openly addressed. It’s an important step for people who look physically-abled, but suffer from severe health complications.
