Brave woman decides to carry foetus destined to die; will donate organs

A pregnant woman in the UK has made the heartbreaking and courageous decision to carry her baby to term even though the child will die at birth.

Hayley Martin plans to donate her unborn baby’s organs to children that need it, the Mirror reported.

She and her husband Scott were elated to find out that she was pregnant with their fourth child. But they soon received devastating news after a 20-week scan showed the child has a rare condition - bilateral renal agenesis.

The genetic condition means the child, already named Ava-Joy, has no kidneys and does not have enough amniotic fluid which causes malformed lungs.

"Our child is going to die no matter what, but if we can try and save somebody else the grief we are going through, it will all be worth it," 30-year-old Hayley is quoted as saying by The Mirror.

In honour of her baby, Hayley will donate one of her own kidneys after she has recovered from the birth, the report revealed.
