Tumour in baby's stomach found to be parasitic twin growing in his body

During the operation doctors found that the tumour was actually a parasitic twin with eyes and skin.

Being born with medical complications can be traumatising for a child but at times such conditions could turn out to be something much more shocking. Cases of children born with parasitic twins growing out of their body have been reported on several occasions, as they often pose a threat to the baby’s life.

A three-month-old child in Bihar was admitted to a hospital for removing what doctors thought of as a tumour. But they were soon shocked to find out that this mass was actually a parasitic twin complete with eyes and skin inside the baby’s stomach.

The mass on the kidney which was believed to be a tumour was actually a twin weighing almost one kilogram found during the operation. The condition is described as foetus in fetu and there are only 200 such cases recorded worldwide so far.

This happens when twins don’t separate in the womb preventing one of them to develop as it becomes part of the healthy twin. The baby has been shifted to the ICU and will be discharged by the end of the week.
