Protest against lack of basic facilities at Ayurveda hospital at Kacheripady

The hospital on which hundreds of patients depend is in poor condition.

KOCHI: Patients and bystanders have registered a strong protest against the lack of basic facilities at the government district Ayurveda hospital at Kacheripady. A memorandum was submitted to district panchayat president Asha Sanil on Friday when he came for treatment to the hospital. There are complaints that a bystander of a patient died as he was not given immediate medical care. Since the new hospital complex has no lift facility, the person could not be shifted from the second floor, it has been alleged.

“Even those with severe rheumatic problems have to climb stairs. The fourth and fifth floors of the new complex remain closed for more than a year due to the lack of a lift facility,” alleged the patients. Ignatius Antony, bystander of a patient in the hospital died on Thursday evening after he collapsed. He could not be shifted from the hospital or given immediate medical care due to the lack of facilities and hospital staff. The hospital on which hundreds of patients depend is in poor condition. The compound wall which was demolished for Metro construction is yet to be reconstructed.
