Where fat goes when you lose weight

Have you ever wondered where the fat you burn actually goes?

As humans we invest so much time trying to lose weight for the sake of our health or to get that perfect body.

There's so much on how to loose the weight, what to eat, when to eat and much more to achieve your weight loss goal.

But have you ever wondered where the fat you burn actually goes?

Burning fat can be quite a long frustrating challenge. There's no way around it but by incorporating regular exercise and a balanced diet to your lifestyle. Once you get into a routine, you start to feel better and more energetic as you shed those pounds.

So, getting back to the question what happens to all that fat? Fat exits the body as carbon dioxide, according to a report by the Metro.

A study about fat by UNSW Australia states "the correct answer is that most of the mass is breathed out as carbon dioxide. It goes into thin air".

Researchers reveal that "10kg of fat turns into 8.4kg of CO2 and 1.6kg of water", the report explains. We also release the water as bodily fluids like urine, tears and sweat.

To achieve this, the body has to go through a process of converting fat into carbon dioxide before it gets rid of it. That's where regular exercise and a healthy nutrition step in.

The study is published in the British Medical Journal.
