Experts warn hidden heart problems putting pregnant women at risk

Cardiovascular disease symptoms can be disguised by pregnancy.

Experts warn women are reportedly dying during pregnancy because they are unaware they have heart problems.

Heart disease is a leading cause of maternal death in the UK. A study conducted showed in 77% of the cases women were unaware they even had a heart condition before they became pregnant, according to the Daily Mail.

The reason the numbers are so high is because doctors often ignore the warning signs as they don't associate heart issues striking young women, a report stated by the Daily Mail concluded.

However, pregnant women are at even more risk because of the strain placed on their heart from carrying a baby. The conditions are not only fatal but cardiovascular disease symptoms can be disguised by the pregnancy.

Sudden cardiac death was found to be the most common cause of maternal death in relation to cardiovascular problems.

The study's authors recommend women find out about their family history for any possible undiagnosed inherited heart conditions.
