Thiruvananthapuram: Three more persons including a one-year-old infact succumbed to fever on Tuesday and the number of dengue cases showed an upward trend. The deceased toddler was identified as Hebron S. Vipin of Pazhakkada, Neyyatinkara. He was under treatment for fever at Neyyatinkara for the past one month. The others were Sundareshan, 75, of Vettoor near Varakala and Arun Raj, 34, of Vizhinjam.
The fatality is apart from a dengue death reported at Malappuram. As per the daily monitoring data by the Department of Health Services (DHS), the numbers of dengue cases have increased slightly after a dip on the weekend. Around 231 suspected dengue cases and 100 confirmed dengue cases were reported. Attingal (5), Thiruvallam (4), Karamana (4) and Vattiyoorkavu (4) reported the most number of confirmed cases.
Meanwhile, the Kerala State Human Rights Commission (KSHRC) has directed the government to make sure that free treatment was given to all the fever-affected. “There are not less than 300 fever deaths in the capital until July 3. Private hospitals are fleecing patients. Around Rs 1000 and Rs 1500 were being charged for blood and platelet by these hospitals. The government must give compensation to those who succumbed to fever,” was the order by KSHRC Acting Chairperson P Mohandas.
