Nikhil Reddy, dad say no to further height increase treatment

Doctors deny all charges, say treatment was successful.

Hyderabad: Alleging cheating by doctors and hiding of facts regarding the height increase surgery, Nikhil Reddy and his father have asked doctors to completely stop the height increase treatment on the son immediately. The treatment was scheduled to be carried out from home for three months. But the family wants it to be stopped as Nikhil can’t bear the pain.

Twenty-three-year-old Nikhil Reddy underwent the surgery on April 5 and since then he has been bed-ridden. Nikhil’s father Govardhan Reddy said, “His height has increased by 1.1 inch and we do not want it to increase further. We want the procedure stopped. For that we called the doctor but he has not visited us since nine days.”

The family is extremely distressed about Nikhil’s condition. Mr Reddy said, “We were cheated by the doctors. What they told Nikhil was that his height will increase but it has increased by only 1.1 inch. They did not tell us about the pain and that he will be bed-ridden for two months. He now requires help to go to the toilet.”

On the other hand Nikhil is getting frustrated as he can’t walk at all. He says, “I am in a lot of pain and that is making things difficult.” Meanwhile, Dr Chandra Bhushan, chief orthopaedic surgeon at Global Hospitals who did the surgery says, “The surgery was successful. His height has increased by 1.1 inches as on May 21, 2016. The full treatment has to be taken to increase his height by 3 inches. But if they want to stop treatment the family has to give a video-consent in front of our lawyers.”

Dr Bhushan said that he had been in touch with the patient and is visiting him regularly along with his team.

Dr Bhushan explained, "To stop the process of height increase the system inserted in his legs has to be stopped. It has to be locked and then loading and weight bearing has to be started to mobilize him. Only after that he will be able to walk properly. The rehabilitation process has to be followed properly."
