Mukhadar pop-up stores a visual treat

Streets brimming with delicious servings for Iftar.

KOZHIKODE: Kuttichira once celebrated every Ramadan season, with the streets packed with pop-up stores from which wafted aromas and alluring fragrances. But some people around the region stopped this practice citing the garbage that was created by the sales. Now after almost two years, a few residents at Mukhadar near Kozhikode Beach have come up with the same idea of pop-up stores selling hot and delicious Malabar cuisine that are mostly made at the time of Ramadan.

Mukhadar's streets are brimming with delicious servings for Iftar. As the evening embraces the night, gourmets get to enjoy some lip-smacking delicacies here in what has developed as a food hub during this Ramadan season. More than 35 such pop- stores have been started in front of the houses of people living here. People from various parts of the district are coming here to try these Malabar special delicacies.

“Kuttichira was indeed a visual treat at the time of Ramadan, but due to several reasons they stopped the practice of pop-up stores selling Ramadan dishes”, said Abdul Ahammed, a pop-up store owner. He added that it was the inspiration for the pop-up stores in Mukhadar. He added, “Actually it all started with one store and later many of the residents here came up with theirs.”
