TRUCK & treat

The food truck has come full circle with these scrumptious vroomfulls, offering the food lover some ready-to-go delights

Le Casse Croute

French for ‘the snack’, Le Casse Croute makes for a great pitstop if it’s some authentic French-style sandwiches you’re after. Hailing from Arras in northern France, Nicolas Grossemy is the brains behind the truck. Grossemy came to the city three years ago and made it his home. With everything from the bread to the sauces made in house, it’s no wonder that this charming little blue truck has a huge fan following. We started off with a Monsieur Martin, a delightful combination of bacon, bechamel sauce, cheese and diced tomatoes. The freshly baked bread was pillowy and the filling, perfectly seasoned. We also tucked into a Monsieur Le Goff —poached prawns with aioli, tomatoes and coriander. This was definitely the winner and we loved how the subtle hint of freshness from the coriander lent it some depth. And what’s French sandwiches, without the quintessential French fries? So we threw our diet plans out the window and also got ourselves a portion of fries. The crispy soft nibbles come with the mo
st scrumptious tomato sauce, that smacks of freshness and interesting flavours. So definitely don’t give it a miss. To round off on a sweet note, we asked for the creme de le creme. A perfectly portioned bowl of caramel cream with salted butter, the accompanying buttery blonde biscuits add texture and complexity to the dessert.

These lip-smacking burgers are not just filled with a patty you buy and serve in a bun, but homemade with minced chicken, tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, dry herbs and homemade sauces.
