COCOA callings

A special chocolate workshop will let you explore how the delectable ingredient can create something sensational.

Zeba Kohli will take you to a fantasy land with her fine art of chocolate tasting at a masterclass at Phoenix Kessaku in Bengaluru this weekend. We speak to the third generation chocolatier on her delectable journey and how she likes to allow others to let out their inner child explore all things chocolate.

When and how did you get into the fine art of chocolate tasting and decide to take it up professionally?
My granddad started Fantasie in 1946. I was a physics student who was pulled into this enterprise at a young age and I grew up running around chocolates just like a child lost in wonderment in the world of chocolate. I studied business but developed a keen taste for chocolates and a thirst to learn more about chocolates made me take short courses to learn the fine art of creating pralines. We have won several awards and continue to develop chocolates for the discerning chocolate lover, be it with the corporate world, celebrities, socialites and Bollywood stars.

What can Bengalureans look forward to from your session?
Chocolate lovers can listen to a talk on chocolate appreciation with a delicious journey into the chocolate world through tastings.

What is required to become a chocolate taster?
Keen taste for chocolates and a thirst to learn more about chocolates. We have made many innovations with chocolates - from making a film on Gandhi, carved in chocolate; to chocolate fashion shows and even chocolate jewellery.

Some of your favourite places across the world to visit as a chocolatier?
Chocolates are wonderful the world over and I love to enjoy chocolates in its entirety from which ever place they are made.
