Time to mane up

Out with the lights and in with the brights! This season is all about sporting bold hair colours, say local hairstylists.

Out with the pastels and in with the bold! Gone are the days when people streaked their hair blonde or brown. Bold hair colours are the new fad among the youngsters today! From silver to blue to pink and red, all these colours are sported with zeal and style.

We talk to a few hairstylists about the trend that has been magnified by celebrities in Hollywood like Hilary Duff and Ruby Rose who sported pink and emerald green hair, as well in Bollywood with Katrina Kaif going red and Sunny Leone dying her hair a shade of pink.

Today’s stars are choosing to amp up their glow factor with eye-popping hues of hair colour which is causing a ripple effect among the youth! “People are bored of the same old blondes and browns and want to change their looks. The only catch is that a little of the natural hair colour should be seen. It can’t all be the dyed colour, as that might look a little odd,” says Ali Barbiere.

“These bright colours also tend to fade away quickly, usually after around five washes. So touch ups need to be done to maintain the look as it looks incredibly dull once the colour has faded,” continues the hairstylist director at a local salon.
Gorgeous blues, greens and reds have been catching eyes ever since the trend emerged.

“Youngsters today want to experiment with bright colours like reds and yellows that are more bold and dramatic. They are also becoming more comfortable with bolder hair. Because this isn’t a natural look, it’s important to choose the right shade that and keep doing touch ups as it tends to look a little shabby when the colour fades after a few washes,” says Yash, another hairstylist who is a fan of the trend.

But how does one carry of the bold hair colour, with confidence and panache? “It’s not that hard to carry out hold hair colour – just pair it with equally bold lips!” pipes Shraddha Singh, a local stylist. “Darker colours like purple and wine give out a more sophisticated and classy look while brighter colours like greens, blues and reds add more of a quirk factor and both can be carried off stylishly with a classic red lip,” adds the 27-year-old.
