Benares on the runway

Hyderabad-based designers — Jayanti Reddy and Gaurang Shah — unveiled their collections at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2019 on Friday.

With a collection that aimed to capture creativity at its best, Jayanti Reddy’s “Benares and Beyond” collection, dazzled the audience with its exclusive fashion statements. Deriving its inspiration from the picturesque beauty of Benares, the designer used clothes as her canvas to showcase a striking line of ensembles.

With a kaleidoscope of ideas that were a feast for the eyes, fabrics like raw silks, Banarasi woven fabrics, were teamed with sheer organza and net, to add fluidity.

The colour palette ranged from muted beiges to pistachio greens, ivories, flaming reds, wines, hot pinks and rich purples being dominant. With designs inspired by natural motifs like flowers and mangoes, she gave a modern twist to anarkalis, dhotis, long kurtas, dupattas, lehengas and cholis.

Fashion Designer Gaurang Shah’s collection mesmerised his audience, mirroring the enchanting 18th-century clothing style during the rule of Peshwa Bajirao. The ornate weave synonymous with royalty of Maharani Chimnabai of Baroda.
