As the temperature soars it is obvious that it’s time to raise those hemlines and bury your thick trousers and jeans in a shelf away from your reach. Being sure of what to wear on a sticky sunny day is tricky business especially if you aren’t a fan of breezy skirts and short dresses. Bollywood glamour queens like Deepika Padukone, Kangana Ranaut, Parineeti Chopra and others have embraced the heat with shorts pairing them with clothes that compliments their style.

Fashion experts believe that shorts are absolutely comfortable and should be your go-to garment in summer. Fashionistas say denim is uncomfortable, however, trying newer materials is fun. Prachita Devi, a fashion designer said, “You can try khaki shorts (heavy cotton), linen in darker colours because light colours tend to be transparent and also try handmade materials like khadi which is trendy.”

Apart from the formal events, you can wear shorts to several other occasions. She adds, “Shorts can be worn to a party, a casual outing etc. During the day, light coloured shorts with a flowy top or a white shirt is the best option. For the night, you can wear denim shorts and pair it with a spaghetti top. To quirk up your look for the night, you can go for embellished shorts but ensure your shorts are not over embellished because it can end up looking a bit tacky.”

Abhilash Surendran, a fashion designer gives you the best way to style this look, “These shorts! especially when they’re long tend to look matronly, so to avoid this and look younger you can pair you’re shorts with a slouchy tee and a pair of sneakers or sandals.

The appropriate lengths is 16 to 18 inches, but yes, this also depends on your preferences.” He also believes that wearing breathable and light weight fabric with light colours is the best way to pull off this look, also it is inevitable that you don’t wear dark colours and heavy fabric.

Here are a few dos and don’ts to watch out for. Pooja Prasad, a designer said “The most important thing is to ensure you wear well-fitted shorts. You must be comfortable with the length you choose to wear because comfort is always the key to any attire and it must compliment your body style. Stay simple, go with very less accessories and that is definitely an appropriate summer look.”
