Brown girl in the ring

Who says this is a boring colour. Our stylists and designers tell you how to make this shade fun.

The colour brown has always been de-valued. Many don’t opt for this shade as its dull. But this year, the colour has been given the respect it deserves. Designer through their collections have proved that brown can be used to brighten up your wardrobe. Bollywood actresses like Prachi Desai, Nimrat Kaur and other sported this colour in the past.

Setting facts right, Designer Prachita Devi feels that brown can brighten up one’s wardrobe rather than dull it down. She adds, “Brown is a very unique colour to use in your clothes. It has a very warm tone. During the winters, you wouldn’t want to wear anything that is dull. Therefore you can play around with the numerous shaded that this colour has. Rather than dulling it down, it brightens your entire look depending on the shade you pick.”

Designer Shriya Joshi feels that this trend just busted the retail myth that you can't sell brown. She further adds, “It's over the market and how! It's definitely the new black. You can pair this colour with other smart colours like navy blue, tan, black or vivid green.” Colour blocking brown with bright pinks or yellows is the way forward. Prachita suggests, “A great formal look would be to pair a brown pencil skirt with nice pink silk blouse.”

Designer Selma Lobo feels that the colour stands out when paired with white. She adds, “My favourite way of styling any shade of brown is with white. The accessories have to be gold. It’s perfect for all the events that take place during fall and winter. Brown checks and textured fabrics are quite trendy.” But will it work with desi outfits as well? Prachita assures that it can. She add, “A great way to incorporate this colour into you desi wardrobe is too have brown chiffon saree with gold sequins all around. Gold and Brown are a winning combination. You can also try out brown checked brocade material for your cigarette pants that can be paired with a chiffon top.

Like every other trend, if you go over the top with it, you will instantly go from looking fab to drab. Shriya says, “Choose a shade that compliments your skin tone. One can also try pastel colour pairing. Oversized clothes are a big no-no. Choose the right colour palette to match from. Don't go overboard in the name of experimenting with colours.” Since this colour is not very loud, you can experiment with accessories. “A classy bag, lace boots and statement earrings will be just enough,” she concludes.
