Skinny shades are so haute!

Love them or hate them, you can't ignore the tiny frames seen on many an IT-girl around the world.

The eyes are the window to the soul, and lately those eyes are being covered by some really tiny sunglasses. While these glasses work better for throwing shade than getting shade, the trend has found a home in 2018. From Selena Gomez and Priyanka Chopra’s street-style iterations, to Kylie Jenner’s MET Gala version — was Keanu Reeves’ eyewear in The Matrix films years ahead of its time?
In January, Kim Kardashian, while on her reality show, was heard telling her best friend: ‘Kanye (West) sent me a whole email like, “You cannot wear big glasses anymore. It’s all about tiny little glasses.”’

Jennifer Aniston voiced her reservations about the trend. Speaking to Glamour, the actor said: “I just think they’re ridiculous, I’m not a fan of those little tiny spectacles; I’m a fan of classic sunglasses. That was very ‘90s, wasn’t it? They’re always sort of regurgitating trends.”

While you may not have got Kanye West’s detailed email on the various types of tiny glasses, you don’t want to end up looking awkward if you don’t pick the right pair depending on your face shape. Here are some tips:

Round
Opt for versions with clean, angular lines, which go well against the softness of a round face.

Square
Steer clear of the sharp-edged variety and instead try smaller, oval styles or thin cat-eyes.

Oval
Oval faces pull off almost every type of sunglass style. Knock yourself out trying everything from rounded to cat eye to rectangular.

Heart
Stick to rectangular, sharp lined designs to balance out your cheeks, the thinner the better.

Designer and Creative Director Sayesha Sachdev is all for the Britney-inspired eyewear. “I’m a 60’s girl born in the wrong generation! I’m loving wearing these glasses and I hope the trend stays forever.”

Fashion Photographer Sasha Jairam, who has been sporting her Balenciaga version since last year, says, “While I like them, I’m not a huge fan. I may continue to wear them till I get bored, but I’ll always like huge sunglasses the best!”

Actor and Model Sahil Shroff says he is well aware of his face shape and these glasses are not for him. “I wouldn’t wear them unless I’m starring in a Matrix movie,” he chuckles.

While Bella Hadid can wear tiny glasses with just about anything and make it work, you can style your glasses with either a beret, or a half - updo hairstyle, or a cropped denim jacket, or a complete monochrome look.

It looks like skinny sunglasses might have a longer lifespan than chokers. While the trend has a few takers in Rhea Kapoor and Patralekhaa, the majority of Bollywood is still opting for larger, time-tested shapes. I highly doubt Karan Johar is going to be folding up his statement, oversized sunnies any time soon.
