Tallest mural to go under hammer

The artist is awaiting the Guinness book of records official certification.

Thrissur: The tallest mural painting in the world is all set to go under the hammer through an e-auction on January 30. Artist Sarans Guruvayur completed this mural painting of Venugopala (Krishna playing flute), spread over 2,000 sq ft, on acrylic on a canvas with 60 ft height and 34 ft width on Mercy College campus in Guruvayur last June. The artist is awaiting the Guinness book of records official certification. Sarans has signed an agreement with e-commerce firm MSTC for the e-auction and the basic auction price has been fixed at Rs 2 crore.

"I have been getting inquiries from several places across the globe seeking the painting and that prompted me to go in for an e-auction," Sarans told DC. The painting was on display at Vadakkumnathan temple in Thrissur. But Guruvayur Devaswom management committee did not permit the artist to exhibit it at Lord Sree Krishna Temple in Guruvayur. After Sarans presented 'Parabramam' picture that depicted themes from all religions to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Thrissur in 2015, Canara Bank offered the artist a loan to come up with a the Guinness Record Project.
