Kerala remembers ONV Kurup

A sculpture depicting motherhood inspired by his poem Amma was unveiled at the courtyard of his house.

KOLLAM: Littérateurs and lovers of O.N.V. Kurup paid floral tributes to the poet on his first death anniversary at his house Nambyadikkal in Chavara on Monday while Kerala Sahitya Akademi organised a cultural meeting ‘ONV Smrithi’ at Chavara, the birth place of the poet. The commemoration meeting was inaugurated by poet Kureepuzha Sreekumar in the function presided over by poet Chavara K.S. Pillai. A poem recitation competition for high school and college students was also held. As a tribute to the poet, a sculpture depicting motherhood inspired by his poem Amma was unveiled at the courtyard of his house.

The sculpture by Pavumba Manoj has carved the imagery of the last lines of the famous poem in stone. Seminars on the writings of ONV will be held on Tuesday in which Dr. K.P. Mohanan will present the topic ‘writer’s self in Ujjayini’. Dr. M.A. Siddique (childhood in ONV poems) Dr. C. Unnikrishnan (epics in ONV poems) and Dr. P. Soman (renaissance streams in ONV poems) will also speak. The valedictory function will be inaugurated by Prof. V.N. Murali.
