Q&A: Paul-itically creative!

Painter Andrew Paul is displaying his work at Gallery Time and Space till September 9. He takes our rapid fire.

As an artist, how important is it for you to be creative?
It’s not always about being creative, it’s about being aware and brave enough to risk it all.
What are you working on currently?
I am working on learning to cook my own meals. A good piece of art work cannot be made on an empty stomach. On a more serious note, I am working on the subject of human connections and love.
What about the creative process excites you?
The idea of creation excites me. I am someone who goes with the flow. I cannot see the end before I begin.
One artist you admire, and why?
Andy Warhol has always been one of my favourites. He wasn’t just an artist, he was everything. He had great ideas and he was one of the first to introduce pop as culture in the art world.
Your best creation?
I am still working on it.
A myth about artists that cracks you up?
Artists are very quiet kinds, reserved and always like to stay away from the limelight. That is an absolute stereotype.
What was the last gift you gave someone?
I gave 25 closest people in my life, miniature works of mine (originals) to celebrate my 25th birthday.
If you were a new addition to the crayon box, what colour would you be and why?
I would be white. White is a shade that blends well with any colour and can create a million shades of every colour.
What is the one thing you have always wanted to do?
I always wanted to go skydiving but still haven’t had the guts to do it. My dad did five jumps at the age of 54 so he is my biggest inspiration.
Your biggest pet peeve, and if you could steal credit for any great piece, which one would you claim?
On the first, people asking me if I can do portraits of them and how much do I charge. And to answer your last questions, Salvador Mundi by Leonardo Da Vinci, it’s the greatest work by the artist.
