Google is celebrating 182nd birthday of Russian chemist Dmitri Mendeleev, who is also known as the father of the periodic table, with its doodle.

Mendeleev formulation of the periodic law led to the organization of 62 elements that are known as periodic table.

Today’s doodle shows Mendeleev in the act of setting down the logic of his periodic table, which reportedly came to him in a dream.

Mendeleev was born on February 8, 1834 in the far west of Russia's Siberia, published his table in 1869 in which he correctly organised the 63 known elements based on their atomic mass.

He placed each and every element based on its atomic weight and existing errors in valency and it’s very interesting to see how he left space for those elements that were not discovered then. Three of these elements were discovered during his lifetime. However, the seventh row of the table was completed last month.

He is considered an important contributor to chemistry. Mendelevium, a synthetic chemical element was named after him.

Mendeleev died on February 2, 1907, aged 72, at Saint Petersburg, Russia.
