Maria Clara’s seven-day Batik exhibition opens

HYDERABAD: Bringing Nature’s bountifulness on cloth and through paintings is the driving force with which Maria Clara, acclaimed Batik and Kalamkari artist from the city, celebrates life.

Her solo batik exhibition, ‘The Vigil’, which opened to impressive response at the state gallery of arts, here on Friday, will conclude on February 9.

Responding to nature’s calling and the passion to create something unique, Clara quit a well-paying corporate job and settled for a full-time career as an artist.

The Batik depictions bear her stamp of sublime expressions whether they are about human anatomy, insects or the cynosure of all eyes, ‘King-David’ in which a king is seen jubilantly playing the harp and singing to its tunes.

Clara said “I have always been amazed seeing God’s creations and wished to recreate them on cloth. As Batik has been the medium, we have used wax and a wide range of colours. Each work took around four days. I made sure that people could easily understand the subject and the expressions that I have used.”

She added “I conduct workshops for school children and regularly visit orphanages and women organizations.”
