I would like to act: Ravinder Singh

Best-selling romantic writer Ravinder Singh wants all his books to be made into films in which he would like to be an actor

Ravinder Singh, India’s best selling writer of romance, wants all his books, a majority of them autobiographical, to be filmed. That’s not all. The writer, whose books have sold two million copies around the globe, would also like to act in these films.“If anyone asks me if I have experience acting, I would say that when I wrote my first book I never had any experience.”

“So I could give acting a try,” the author reveals in Kozhikode, where he met his fans on Thursday. If I don’t get an opportunity, I would rather prefer Ranbir and Deepika, the best romantic pair of Bollywood, to enact the lead roles and Imtiaz Ali as the director.” But these wishes are secondary, he adds. “My focus is on writing more and keeping my readers satisfied,” Ravinder says. This handsome writer had started off his career with leading IT establishments but his penchant for writing and an incident motivated him to become a full-time writer.

Though Ravinder has visited Kerala only twice, he is so attached to the State, much more than any place he has been to. “I have been to Ernakulam once and the very moment my flight landed, I could see beautiful green all around. The stay in the city was an awesome experience. I even postponed my trip to explore the city further. I would say Ernakulam and Kozhikode are two non- commercial hubs where you get to breathe a new lease of life every minute.”

He was in Kozhikode to talk about his latest book — This Love that Feels Right. “The definition of love is changing,” he says. “Today, if one’s desires are not fulfilled with his/her partner, they start searching for it elsewhere. Having an extra marital relationship is very common these days. In other words, one starts having different partners for different expectations. The school of extra-martial affairs came into existence the very moment the concept of marriage took birth and hence, through my book I am questioning the hypocrisy surrounded over the concept of marriage.”

Asked if he was bothered by the tag of ‘commercial writer’, he says, “With lots of pride, I would call myself a commercial writer. I am earning money out of my books and I am helping my publishers earn money. So why should I hesitate in saying that I am a commercial writer, which many bestselling authors refuse to say.”
