Flying with Jack the Fly

The 12-year-old Gauri Santhosh talks about her first book, Jack the Fly: Journey to New York.

Adventure is in the air. It is time to pack up and go on an exhilarating journey with ‘Jack the fly’. The 12-year-old Gauri Santhosh has blazed a trail into the world of letters through her first book, ‘Jack the Fly: Journey to New York.’ The book unravels the tale of a brave fly that secretly travels with the Johnson family to New York.

Gauri’s dream of becoming a writer has taken wings through this book which is published by Partridge, a Penguin group company. Gauri says zealously about the significance of her book, “Little children are often underestimated in today’s society. If they see for themselves that even a small creature like a fly can do amazing things, they will be encouraged to be more creative and unique without drawing boundaries for themselves.”

The journey of Jack the Fly is laced with adventurous and humorous elements. The splendid sights of New York are beautifully described in the book. Through this book, Gauri tries to inculcate the love for nature and fellow beings in children. The book would certainly be an absolute delight for young children and fuel their imagination.

Gauri Santhosh, the seventh grade girl from Kochi, organised the ‘Light Up a Life’ campaign during October last year for providing poor people with Diwali gifts. Gauri is all the more excited about Jack the Fly and she is now busy with three other books.
